Empowering Local Leaders for Child Protection
At Child Guardians, we believe that real change starts within communities. Through our Community-led Initiatives, we empower local leaders to take the lead in protecting children and promoting a safer, more inclusive environment for all.
Our core approach involves establishing and supporting Child Protection Committees (CPCs)—voluntary networks of community members who come together to safeguard children. These committees are active both inside schools and in the wider community, and include parents, educators, civil defense workers, health professionals, and youth.

A Model Unlike Any Other in Northwestern Syria
Child Guardians’ Protection Committees are the only grassroots child protection network of their kind in northwestern Syria—bringing together diverse community members and led prominently by women, whose leadership is central to driving inclusive, locally owned solutions for child safety.
Our Approach
What Do Child Protection Committees Do?
- Responding to Protection Risks Identifying threats to children’s safety and responding with community-led solutions.
- Referring Vulnerable Children Connecting children in need to our specialised case management teams for professional support.
- Leading Community Awareness Organising consultations and outreach campaigns to raise awareness about child protection issues, with ongoing technical support from Child Guardians.
Unique Approach
What Makes Us Stand Out
- Truly Voluntary All our protection committees are established on a completely voluntary basis, ensuring genuine community commitment.
- Women's Leadership Women play distinguished leadership roles within our committees, ensuring inclusive representation and diverse perspectives.
- Broad Community Representation Our committees include a wide spectrum of community members, from healthcare workers to educators, creating comprehensive protection networks.
Our Impact
Local Committees. Lifesaving Impact
- Earthquake Recovery Efforts After the devastating earthquake in early 2023, CPCs mobilised quickly to support recovery. They initiated environmentally-friendly projects, restored child-friendly spaces, and rehabilitated parks and public streets, helping communities rebuild in meaningful and inclusive ways.
- Schools Rehabilitation With the support of school-based CPCs, we renovated and rehabilitated 108 schools, providing safer and more supportive learning environments for 35,450 students.
