About This Initiative

Advocating for the lives of those still imprisoned and silenced

Launched in 2018, Save the Rest was a volunteer-driven campaign that demanded the release of political detainees and forcibly disappeared persons — including children — held in Syria’s notorious detention centers, described by Amnesty International as “human slaughterhouses.”

At a time when countless individuals were imprisoned without due process and subjected to starvation, torture, illness, and medical neglect, Save the Rest called on the world to act — before it was too late.

The campaign engaged international organizations, including the United Nations and the Red Cross, and reached out to politicians and decision-makers, urging them to intervene.

The campaign included:

  • Documenting testimonies from released detainees
  • Publishing leaked letters from inside detention
  • Producing advocacy materials and documentaries
  • Holding public events to raise global awareness

Our Impact

Save the Rest became one of the most prominent civil society efforts to spotlight the fate of Syria’s detainees and offer hope to families searching for their loved ones.
