About this initiative

Combating extremism and protecting religious freedom

“No Coercion” is a campaign launched by Child Guardians on 1 November 2017 to raise awareness about the dangers of extremism and coercion practiced in the name of religion. It sheds light on the negative impact of such ideologies on women, children, and society.

The campaign challenges misconceptions by highlighting the true essence of religious values — mercy, non-violence, and justice.

“No Coercion” highlights violations that have been committed in the name of religion, exposing practices that harm the most vulnerable members of society and restrict fundamental freedoms.

Our key objectives include:

  • Child marriage and its devastating impact on young lives
  • Violence against women and children justified through misinterpretation
  • Restrictions on freedom of thought, belief, and expression
  • Coercive practices by de-facto authorities

As part of the initiative, two powerful documentaries were produced featuring survivors of coercive practices. These films expose the abuses they endured while in detention and amplify their voices.

The campaign was widely praised for its bold message and has strengthened Child Guardians’ outreach and capacity to address sensitive societal issues in future initiatives.
