The National Program for Education and Child Protection

An independent civil initiative that coordinates governmental and non-governmental organizations in Syria to improve education and child protection services through collaboration and resource sharing.

About this initiative

Protecting children through life-saving education and awareness

The National Program for Education and Child Protection was an independent civil initiative that aimed to coordinate the efforts of governmental and non-governmental organisations operating inside Syria in the fields of education and child protection. The program sought to improve the quality of services provided by these organisations through collaboration, sharing experiences and best practices, and exchanging resources.

Its long-term goal was to become a model for cooperation, contributing to developing a cohesive civil society in Syria.

Many organisations in Syria have been operating for years, delivering vital services to civilians on a significant scale. These organisations have developed valuable local expertise and received funding, training, and support from various international entities. Yet despite their substantial resources, these organisations lacked proper channels to coordinate their efforts and share lessons learned.

The National Program was designed to fill this gap and provide a reliable channel for cooperation between like-minded organisations while ensuring their independence and solidifying their community presence.

Our approach included:

  • Coordinate efforts to improve the country's education system
  • Coordinate media and PR activities for greater impact
  • Develop and implement higher educational standards
  • Implement effective child protection policies, especially within education
  • Establish environments for sharing experiences and best practices
  • Effectively manage human and material resources
  • Promote commitment to good governance and transparency

Although it was not fully implemented as envisioned, the program laid the foundation for a joint mechanism to guide education strategy during early recovery efforts.
