The webinar, organized by the European Union Delegation to Geneva, focused on the importance of delivering life-saving assistance and providing long-term support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Maimouna Al-Ammar, founding member and Programmes Officer, shared her personal experience as a displaced person, emphasizing the particular challenges faced by displaced children. She also discussed how local organizations respond to IDP needs in contexts like Syria, especially when international humanitarian assistance is limited due to lockdown measures and pre-existing restrictions.
A session focused on the state of children’s rights in Syria, emphasising the duty to protect children and the role of international investigators and judicial authorities in upholding their rights and addressing violations.
Maimouna Al-Ammar spoke at the Brussels IV Conference about the urgent needs of youth and women in Syria, and called for greater investment in education, healthcare, justice, and community empowerment.
At the Brussels IV side event, Maimouna Al Ammar highlighted the importance of integrating MHPSS into humanitarian efforts to support children and youth in building resilience post-pandemic.
