Landmines and Unexploded Ordnances

Our 2017 awareness campaign educates children and parents about the dangers of landmines and unexploded ordnances through workshops, training, and community outreach.

About this initiative

Protecting children through life-saving education and awareness

This awareness campaign, launched in 2017, aimed at educating children and parents in Syria about the dangers of landmines and unexploded ordnances (UXOs). The initiative was launched in response to several tragic incidents that caused injuries and material damage in areas where Child Guardians operate.

Today, many schools remain contaminated with unexploded remnants of war and UXOs, creating invisible threats to children’s safety every day. What should be safe spaces for learning have become potential danger zones, requiring urgent awareness and action.

Our approach included:

  • Workshops for adults and children on recognizing dangerous materials
  • Public meetings to raise community awareness
  • Training sessions on safety protocols and avoidance techniques
  • Flyer distribution with visual guides and safety information
  • Education on reporting procedures to local authorities
The campaign educates communities about the types of these ordnances, how to identify them, how to avoid them, and critically – how to report them to the proper authorities for safe removal.
