Safe Spaces for Children

HomeSafe Spaces for Children

No Child Too Far, No Crisis Too Great

Child-friendly spaces (CFS) are safe and welcoming environments created specifically for children living in crisis-affected areas. These spaces serve as a refuge—supporting children to gradually regain a sense of normalcy through structured psychosocial support, informal education, and joyful, engaging activities.

Through these spaces, Child Guardians connects with children and communities to deliver an integrated response that supports healing, learning, and protection.

In many remote regions where protection services are limited or non-existent, our child-friendly spaces offer a lifeline. With the support of trained local community members, we provide children with a secure and stimulating environment tailored to their needs.

Protection & Support

A Safe Space for Every Child

Through different types of child-friendly spaces and mobile libraries, we are proud of our ability to reach children who need our help wherever they may be.

Stand-Alone Spaces

These dedicated centers offer targeted support to children referred through our protection network.

  • Community-Based Access Located next to Child Guardians’ offices, these spaces welcome children referred by case management teams or community members.
  • Specialized Support & Learning Children receive specialized psychosocial care guided by expert manuals and access remedial education through UNICEF-developed self-learning tools.

Types of Safe Spaces

Child Guardians offers stand-alone, school-embedded, and mobile safe spaces—each tailored to deliver protection, learning, and psychosocial support. These flexible models ensure children are reached wherever they are.

Embedded School-Based Spaces

Child Guardians brings protection and learning closer to children by integrating safe spaces within schools across affected areas.

  • Empowering School Staff Child Guardians has embedded 558 child-friendly spaces within local schools. These are managed by educational assembly staff trained and mentored over a six-month period.
  • On-Site Child Protection A dedicated child protection officer supervises each space, ensuring children in need are identified and referred to specialized services.
