A Twin’s Journey to Hope

When tragedy struck twice, nine-year-old twins Jawad and Iqbal lost everything—their father, their home, and their hope. But sometimes, the right help at the right moment can change everything.

When Crisis Compounds: A Story of Resilience

Multiple Tragedies Strike

Amidst war and natural disasters, the resilience of twin brothers shines through as they overcome hardship, return to learning, and begin a powerful journey from adversity to hope—with the support of Child Guardians’ case management team.

Jawad and Iqbal’s young lives were already marked by hardship. Born with a congenital lung deformity that required ongoing medical care, the twins depended on their father for support and stability. That foundation was shattered when their father was tragically killed in shelling, leaving their mother to care for two children with complex medical needs in the midst of war.

The loss of their father wasn’t just emotional trauma—it worsened their physical condition. Without proper medical supervision and the stress of grief, their lung deformity became more severe, affecting their breathing and overall health.

But their trials were far from over. As the family struggled with ongoing displacement due to the conflict, an earthquake struck, destroying their temporary refuge. This natural disaster compounded their already desperate situation, heightening the children’s fear and anxiety while further damaging their health. The trauma prevented them from returning to school, cutting them off from education and normal childhood experiences.

A Mother's Desperate Call

When their mother contacted Child Guardians, the twins were living in conditions that threatened both their immediate safety and long-term development. Our case management team immediately responded, conducting a comprehensive assessment that revealed the full scope of their challenges.

The evaluation uncovered significant social and mental health issues stemming from prolonged neglect and poor living conditions. The twins were not just dealing with medical needs and grief—they were struggling with trauma, social isolation, and developmental delays that affected every aspect of their lives.

A Comprehensive Response

Our case management team recognized that Jawad and Iqbal’s challenges were interconnected—medical needs, trauma, housing instability, and educational disruption all required coordinated intervention. The holistic plan included solar energy tools for nebulisation treatments and lighting, relocation to suitable housing, psychological support services, and enrollment in a local nursery for social integration and education.

The results were transformative. The twins, who had been isolated and unable to attend school, gradually began engaging with peers and participating in educational activities. Their mother witnessed her sons regain their sense of security and hope for the future.
